Psalms 91:9                                                                                    Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,          Even the Most High, your dwelling place,                                    No evil shall befall you,                                                                  Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

Who shall have the benefit and comfort of these promises? It is they that make the Most High their habitation; that are continually with God and rest in Him. They make His name both their temple and their strong tower. They dwell in love and so dwell in God. It is our duty to be at home in God, to make him our choice, and then to live our life in Him as our habitation. To converse with Him, and delight in Him, and depend upon Him; to be at home with God is our privilege. We shall be as welcome to Him as a man is welcome in his own home, with no feeling of self-consciousness; only a feeling of safety with Him. He will keep us in perfect peace, Isa 26: 3. The psalmist David sings, "He whom thou makest thy habitation is my refuge; and I have found Him firm and faithful, and in Him there is room enough, and shelter enough, both for thee and me. The promises belong to all those who have made the Most High their habitation. Whatever happens to them, nothing shall hurt them. "There shall no evil befall thee"; though trouble or affliction come, yet there will be no real evil in it, for it will come from the love of God and will be sanctified; it will come, not for hurt, but for good. Though it may not be joyous but grievous, in the end it will yield good because no evil can befall a good man.

HIP SURGERY for Angelita

A sudden accident threatened to change our plans. Our departure to Florida was in two days, but Angelita came out of surgery with smiling colors.  And the surgeon was delighted to try out a new technique on her, which would allow her to walk again on the same day of the surgery. It worked, and just like planned, we were able to leave to Florida on schedule. When one makes the Name of the Lord his Temple and High Tower, one finds himself safe and at home with God.

PASTORAL RETREAT

The retreat was a great time of fellowship for our group of pastors. It was the perfect time to pray and "make Him our habitation". To seek Him and be still with a feeling of safety and belonging. To delight in Him and converse with Him.

PREACHING BENEATH THE SHADE OF THE TREES

Pastor Eligio is the head pastor, and this implies much responsibility. He was not feeling very well upon arrival, but he continued forward because of his commitment. And because he delights in the Lord, and the Lord is faithful, the day began to unfold with less symptoms and more joy. Obedience brings your blessings!

MISSION AT "LA CATARINA"

Visits to the missions start out early in the morning with prayer to help through the discomfort of rain and mud, or the cold mountain air, and most of all, the threat of any meetings with the cartel. The pastors know what they are up against when they intentionally and purposely start the trail upward into the higher regions of the mountains, after loading up the instruments and loudspeakers. They are on their way to comfort and encourage the people just like our Lord Jesus did as He went along from town or village to another.

Psalms 91:8                                                                                      Only with your eyes will you look                                                      and see the reward of the wicked,

Part of this Psalm is about the security and protection of believers. The broader context is  God’s promise to those who take refuge in Him which is a shift to a distinctive feature of God’s people — that they will not only be kept from harm but will also witness the consequences of the wicked. This verse points to God’s righteous judgment. Believers, living in communion with God, are not only shielded from evil but will also see the “reward” of the wicked — meaning the fulfillment of God’s threatenings against them. This is not a passive observation but a fulfilled expectation of God’s justice. It is a comfort to the believer that God’s promises are not only for protection but also for vindication, and that the wicked will be brought to account.

For David it is a “writ of protection” under the “broad seal of Heaven”. For believers, it encourages us to trust God fully, knowing that our safety is assured and that God will see justice done. Here we have a promise of God’s righteous judgment against the wicked. It is a comfort that believers will not only be kept safe but will also witness the consequences of evil.

We as God's people have divine assurance that we are under His special care and will be vindicated in the end.

Parents; they all feel the same way about the fact that the little ones do not stay little for very long. Not a one of them ever took classes to learn how to be a parent. Nevertheless, they make commitments to be the best parent for their little ones. Who is the best parent to his child but the one who makes it a priority to teach him about Jesus. To place them in the hands of God. That's why turning to the Scriptures at every turn and every step of the way is actually trusting that "God will make a way".

Psalms 91:7                                                                                           A thousand may fall at your side,                                                And ten thousand at your right hand;                                            But it shall not come near you.

Calamities like COVID are not respecters of persons. When death rides in triumph and diseases rage, so that thousands and ten thousands fall from sickness or war, they fall at your side, at your right hand, and the sight of the fall is frightful. If they fall nearby because of a pestilence, you would be infected, yet it will not come near you; neither death nor the fear of death. Brothers and sisters, preserve your purity in times of corruption. Trust God with your safety in times of trouble. Prepare for death, which is sometimes around the corner, yet be not  afraid or amazed nor subject to bondage as many do during their lifetime. The sprinkling of blood secured the first-born of Israel and thousands fell. Be thou sprinkled with Jesus' blood, and "it" shall not come near you.

Dr. Cook and Lucia's children have a uniqueness all their own.  Each one no doubt had to have seen the terrible things this world is capable of. The experience of being an abandoned child is heartbreaking. The old serpent, Satan, wanted these children which he would have had were it not for God's promise to the orphans to deliver them and not let evil come near them.  Alejandra, Dr. Cook and Lucia's adopted daughter, is pictured here with John Roy from Florida. He was one of the many  volunteers who gave of their precious time to bring a smile to the faces of the children who are alive today thanks to all who have been a part of  MANO DE AYUDA throughout the years.

And now I am preparing for our Marriage Conference in a few days. I have faith that all the needs for the conference will be met. God bless you and we are trusting in the promises of God."    Pastor Eligio

"From the bottom of my heart, God bless each one of you. Tomorrow is our marriage conference in Tzurumu'taro, and I have been thinking a lot about preparing for it. But thanks to God because He is good to us. As for me, please give my regards to all the pastors there, and I would like to say thank you for all the support they have given us. I would like to comment that this last week, I did not sell even one kilo of fish. In forty years of fishing, I have never seen such a scarcity of fish in our lake. This is not good. But, at any rate we continue to go forward. God bless you!"  Pastor Eligio

PSALMS 91:6

"nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness,

nor for the destruction that lays waste at noonday."

God's promises deliver us from the malice of the powers of darkness. May the LORD keep us not only from evil, but from the fear of evil. LORD, protect us from the fancies and imaginations which are often the most frightful of all. Protect us as You protected the Hebrew firstborn when in Egypt. We trust You, LORD, that even though we may carry the seeds of disease in our bodies, You will build up bars of protection around us. Help our trust be sure in You, LORD, when in plain daylight, danger seems farfetched. the arrow that lays waste at high noon flies too, undetected, but in the midst, God tells us, "Thou shalt not be afraid!" Not of the arrow, which has been clipped of its venomous point; nor fear, for our heavenly Father's will is done, Amen!

Lucia remembers the many trips she and Dr. Cook made to the States with the Cook children. Traveling 2,500 miles, they would safely arrive at the border crossing at Loredo. God protected them all in that bus every time. Once across the border, the first stop was always McDonalds. The children knew it and they couldn't wait.

Lucia's daughter, Perla, watches a scorpion go the other way. Lucia tells the story of her promise to Jesus concerning these dangerous little creatures. "I will not harm the insects You have created if You keep them away from my little ones." And so it was that she kept her promise and Jesus would faithfully let the venomous creatures be seen in plain daylight, giving them time to move away and get mom. The children were taught not to be afraid of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

He who would abide in the secret place of the Almighty, let him see beyond himself , and do good. Habits are formed by repeating the same action over and over again. The same can be said of good works. How can we master this? By exercising resolve, and by not being afraid of the pestilence that walks in darkness. The pastors Lucia presides over never say, "What will people say?" The heartfelt necessity to reach lost souls takes them many times to areas where no one else will even think of going. Why? Because what will Jesus say when we are each giving an account to the Lord of everything we did or didn't do.  Seven of the faithful were scheduled to be baptized on that day, but one of the women wanting to be baptized went to be with the Lord three days before the appointed day. Jesus on the Cross conceded to the thief's desire for the KIngdom, it is most proper to consider that the desire to be baptized is binding as well.
